WebQuest
Strengths
Weaknesses
Grow School Greens
The WebQuest did give the students the opportunity to work with each other during the long duration of the project.

Although there was a lot jobs in the WebQuest, some seem like more work than the others.

Where is My Hero?
It allows students to get an in depth look at important people of the past and what made them significant.

I could see a lot of disagreements over students picking the same hero.

Underground Railroad
The fact that everyone has different roles and different parts of the WebQuest to look at is good. That means they have to teach the other group members what they learned and collaborate.   The WebQuest is more individual than most and puts a lot of work on each student.

Ice Cream
The activity is very hands on and allows the students to work together to create something that is far different than just a power point.

Getting all the group members to decide on an ice cream flavor and packaging may be difficult if group members are not able to compromise.

Your Impressions

My group and I decided that the Ice Cream WebQuest was the best because it gave the students a good opportunity to be creative and work hands on with the project.

My group and I decided that the Grow School Green WebQuest was the worst because it took a lot of work and took up too much time.

The Learning Power of WebQuest

Three important ideasfrom the reading today are...
  • "well-designed WebQuest combines research-supported theories with effective use of the Internet to promote dependable instructional practices."
  • "The best WebQuests inspire students to see richer thematic relationships, to contribute to the real world of learning, and to reflect on their own metacognitive processes."
  • "Real WebQuests facilitate meaningful use of the Web for educational ends."
But the most important thing I learned is...
  • "WebQuests bring learner-centered principles from the realm of noble idea to daily practice."

How Diversity Makes Us Smarter

Three important ideas/things from the reading today are...
  • Diversity has some negative effects like, discomfort, a lack of trust, lower communication and other things, but according to research the good out weighs the bad.
  • The exposure of diversity can change the way you view and think.
  • "People who are different from one another in race, gender and other dimensions bring unique information and experiences to bear on the task at hand."
The most important thing I learned today is...
  • "we need diversity—in teams, organizations and society as a whole—if we are to change, grow and innovate."
What I got from the article was there is a vast amount of research out there that proves that diversity provides a lot of success and will improve society.

Valuing Diversity

Three important ideas that I learned from the reading today are...

  • " A crucial mistake many people make is to equate diversity with "race" and "culture"."
  • "Currently the kaleidoscope metaphor seems to more accurately reflect what is happening in a diverse society. When a kaleidoscope is in motion, new possibilities emerge at every turn, just like the interaction between cultural groups."
  • There are three levels on how valuing diversity can be measured, cognitive, affective and behavioral.
But the most important thing I learned today is...
  • "Valuing diversity recognizes differences between people and acknowledges that these differences are a valued asset."

Reading Instruction For All Readers

Three important ideas from the reading today are...

  • "Students who are engaged and motivated readers read more often and read more diverse texts than students who are unmotivated by the reading task".
  •  "The level of difficulty or complexity in a text is not the only factor students consider in choosing texts; interest and motivation also matter".
  • "Have students read multiple texts focused on the same topic to improve comprehension through text-to-text connections".
The most important thing I learned from the reading today is...
  • "Preparing students to read complex texts effectively is one of the most important and most challenging responsibilities of schools".
One way my ULD book might support reading instruction for all students is..
  • My book should keep the interest of the students and make them think what their "where I am from" poem would be like.
